hey

I have played the demo a couple of times, I really liked it.

i got a few questions
1. What do rivers do, I know they increase movement (like roads) and I have played CIV II a lot in which the rivers gave extra trade, is that true here as well?

2. Do rivers also make the rainful optimum in the square??? (then what would be the use of of those rainmaking things?)

3. Do the roads have a similar upgrade like to railroads, I know they have some kind of magical tube (or whatever it's called) but do they act the same as roads, or do they act as stargates between cities like MOO2?????

Rivers - movement cost 1/3.
+1 Energy when square is worked.
Think +1 rainfall level.

Note : Cannot Drill to Aquifier next to a river square.

Roads can be upgraded to MagTubes - 0 movement cost (like Civ RailRoads).

There's also a "Stargate" equivalent-- you can equip bases with Psigates. I believe units can move instantaneously between bases if both bases have psigates. (Dunno if it uses up all the unit's movement.)

Q: Can rivers make lakes? If you drill to aquifer, and there's a space nearby that's lower than all surrounding terrain, is there any chance that the river will run into it and turn it into a lake? That'd be cool...

Thanks a lot,

when square is worked you mean either a farm mine or solar collecter right? When you build roads on top of a river nothing extra happens?

one more question (if you feel like answering obviously)
When I farm a square sometimes I don't get the extra mineral\energy, etc.
Is this because of my form of government?

I haven't gotten to the stage but I suspect there will be submarines, can you have a submarine colony pod and build underwater bases??

mr. Geko

btw. It seems more useful to build a base with no river squares nearby so that all the area around the base can be made into Aquifiers. This is probably a wrong assumption, but I am just wondering.

Worked just means that a worker unit is stationed there - whatever improvement are on the square.

You can only get a maximum of 2 of each income type from a square until certain technologies are researched (+ bonuses). I cannot remember the names but nutrients is a level 3, minerals a level 4 and energy a level 5 tech.

All sea bases are pictured as floating, though since all Yang's bases are underground (free Perimeter defense), his sea ones are probably under water).

To make a submarine, put a high pressure hull special on a Crusier or Foil - the unit is now stealthed.

When you drill to Aquifier a river is created - you cannot drill to Aquifier in any square next to where that river flows afterwards...

You can build roads in rivers, and it does have an advantage.

It costs 1/3 of a movement point to move *along a river*-- i.e. from one river square, into the square that the river flows to, or from. Moving from dry land to the river costs the full movement cost (1 for plains, 2 for rocks, all points for fungus). Ditto moving from the river to a dry square, or (I believe) fropm a river square, to another river square, if the river doesn't flow directly between the two squares. Unless, of course, there are roads in both squares-- in which case it's 1/3 point, period.

On top of which, roads boost mines production, and can eventually be turned into railroads-- er, magtubes.

funny thing, i recovered a colony pod that was in the boton of a bowl shaped valley. it was a hydrology pod discovered and the created river ran in a circle around the bottom 4 squares. i gave it a landmark name of river island, to pertain to the very small piece of land that remained, quartered by the 4 squares. how does a river run in a circle? and no lake be formed? Very weird this Planet is.
