Well, I was going to wait until I got to the store and buy Alpha Centauri, but hearing people say that pre-orders have shipped I am going to go directly from the forum to the buy now page. That is really terrible, but man, I can't even call it an impulse buy, the demo has been leaving me wanting so much more I really cannot wait.

BTW, Like the new firaxis.com design.

Unless you live in the sticks, far from big city stores, this strategy is probably going to backfire in your face. Order now, and I can almost guarantee your shipment won't be rolling off the dock tomorrow, since you'll be last in line for the direct orders. I really think you'd be better off waiting for SMAC to arrive at your local store.

I could be wrong, but I've been burned by the shipment timing of direct orders before. Caveat emptor.

But also, living on a college campus with no car makes it difficult to get to a Best Buy.

The cheapest I've found it is at ebworld.com, 39.95. But that's not including S&H and taxes of course. But it may be the same price in their offline stores.

I could, or I could be lazy and pay online (:

buygames.com had it for $45.01 US including shipping with no sales tax (at least for me in Illinois). Ebworld's 39.95 + 5.00 shipping + tax would be a little higher.

I just called the Florida Mall Babbages in Orlando, FL and they said it was coming in tomorrow. I think their web page is a little out of date.

EBWorld also gives a $10 rebate (checkitout: http://www.ebworld.com/ebx/rebates/Rebate-Files/2-28-Alpha.htm). Of course, the rebate is in the form of a gift certificate, and it takes a *long* time for the certificate to arrive-- but still, that's a little bit of money, which is a Good Thing.
