What's the best govn't in SMAC?

Warlike
Passive
Researcher
Grow and then conquer
etc.

I find that 'Democracy', 'Green' and 'Knowledge' prove best so far(for me atleast). I'll have to wait for the full game to tell you about the Future Societies effectiveness though. Cybernetic and Eudomania sound cool though.

It also depends, a little bit, on which factions you want to get in good with. Yang, for instance, likes people with Police States, while he hates people with Democracies (and to a lesser extent, Fundamentalisms.)
As far as the future socities go, well, the University with Knowledge and a Cybernetic Future would have HUGE research bonuses. Eudamonic Free Marketing Democracy Morganites could cash in well too. And Green Power Police States with Thought Control would make for a very 'tough cookie' nation.
...But I'd have to use them to really see.

I like the basic police state/green/knowledge if im at war, democracy if im at peace

As Uop I use Democracy/Freemarket/Wealth or Knowledge at peace.
At war I use Green Economy or Freemarket depending on how I gonig to fight the war and how many allies I have. Lots of allies they do the attacking and I use Probes and Terraformers, no allies then I switch to Green economy and do the traditional war thing.

Police State
Planned
Power
Thought Control
Super war machine with no penalties!
