Several australian websites have alpha centurai for sale and some pepole have bought the game from stores. This is probobly the first time a major game is first released in australia. It eaither a real good pirate or the real thing. Heres the post from NG: Amazingly I have just purchased Alpha Centauri from the Games Wizards (9748-3377) here in Sydney for $85. It's a Singapore-produced copy. As far as I could see they only had two copies - one now ! :-)
Comes with CD, Tech Tree poster, Install guide, and a very functional 250 page manual. I did a Typical install which takes up about 133 MB's, Full install is about 360 MB's. Game version is 1.0i dated 4/1/99. I have only just started playing it but it looks much the same as the V1.1 demo. No more 100 turn limit !! :-) Interesting to note the Executive Producer is listed as Andy Hollis for EA. I wonder how much he had to do with the game ? Probably only QA issues for EA.

Unfortunately us people in Adelaide (and probably Perth) still have to wait |

I think you have got a pirated copy. Here, in Malaysia, the pirated CDs of SMAC have been available for two weeks. You don't know how hard it is to resist buying it and start playing before the rest of the world! You're gonna freak out when you hear how much it costs: RM8.00 (about US$2.00)!!!! Yes, TWO bucks!

Nope - this is legit. The Harvey Norman store in Oxley, Brisbane, Queensland has about a dozen copies on the shelf priced at (I think) $AU 85. I think they only got them today. I'm picking mine up later this week. Yay! |

Ok. My mistake. It can't be a pirated version since the pirated one comes with only the CD. No manuals, no poster, nothing. That's why I have to wait for the real thing. Even with CivII I had to buy the strategy guide to fully enjoy the game. |

Hey, even the pirates have to have a legit retail copy in order to make pirated copies. |

It cannot have been first released in Australia since the Australia ones come from Singapore. I strongly believed the pirated ones in Malaysia also come from a legitimate Singapore copy.
