That's not Sid's next project. At least, I don't think so. Sid said he was doing the 3rd in the Sweep of Time.

I think that is just a Firaxian team without Sid and Brian doing step 2. Some new items are added in, but nothing new. Its more like SMACX, only it will be a stand alone.

Or so goes my impression. For the $0.00 that's worth.

The thought crossed my mind... I sure hope you are right.

I don't think it is the new Sid Meier game. Kinda like a mod pack for Gettysberg. Some new maps, units, and perhaps some other enhancements. I don't think that Sid will have that much involvement with this project just as Brian probably won't have that much involvement with SMACX. Another thing that leads me to believe this isn't the next Sid Meier's game, as in designed by, is that there hasn't been nearly enough hoopla.

Exactly Zardov. You have stated it very well. Looks like Firaxis is going to due a series of American Civil War games using the Gettysburg engine, expanding it somewhat as they go.

Well, I hope the ignernt Firaxis Yankees get the damned map right this time - they based the Gettysburg maps in many areas on a mix of the modern topography, and the old flat projection maps. There are actual topo maps available for the period, including the railroad survey maps.

SMG plumb forgot about the most strategically significant terrain feature of the whole battle - the *-*-*-*ing railroad cut just north of the McPherson farm and a bit south of Oak hill. I liked the game a lot, but it wasn't worth a **** as historical sim - the railroad cut was responsible for Joe Davis' brigade being cut to pieces on the late morning attack on the 1st, and it also prevented Junius Daniel's brigade from tieing in on Brockenbrough's left when Rodes Division came down from the north.

It would also be nice if the Antietem game allowed for the digging in and proper (automated) reverse slope siting of the Yankee artillery batteries. Finally, it would be nice if the artillery effectiveness was modeled a bit more accurately.

My oh-so-mildly stated rants against the other Firaxis games - I've been to Gettysburg over a dozen times, and been up and down the terrain 'til I know it like the back of my hand.

Another point for the Firaxis Yankees (ignernt 'n yellow as always - cuz they's Yankees ) - if you're going to do the cute box art idea with one side the righteous cause, and the other the devil-incarnate Yankees - call the reb side Sid Meiers Sharpsburg - that's what we down home call it. Antietam is that little bitty creek y'all coundn't figure out how to cross - Sharpsburg's the town where our camps were, and where our lines were set out in front of.

Who you calling an ignorant Yankee...you Johnny Reb. . Hey, they won didnt they despite all the initial shortcomings and the wrong generals in charge in the beginning.Just remember how different the world would be today had they not won so as horrible a period of time it was, all was for the best in the long run. AND WE AINT IGNERNT..just obnoxious.

They's only won cause we got stupider than they a couple of times. Like not being able to repair our rails, nots having the Heavy Industry, Yadda yadda yadda... They's was a lot stupider about other things, but theys founds a few ways around it.
