Hey all, I was just wondering if someone could in detail explain to me the differences between built units, and native units (ie: isle of the deep, mindworms, locusts).

Now, I know that native units and units with psi attack/defense bypass all techs involved, however exactly what else goes on?

I know morale also takes an important role.

But like, say you have a 24-10-1 unit, disciplined or green, and it's going up against a mature boil, who wins? (usually)

ignore the 24-10-1 - it has no bearing
the unit could be a 1-1-1 in psi combat

so the mature boil has a 25% morale advantage (over a disciplined unit) and however attacks has a 50% boost.

This is simplified and ignores terrain and SPs and unit enhancements.

whoever - not however..

Ok then what are the highest exp levels for native and faction units, and what are the differences?

I know (think) that demon boil seems to be the highest mindworm I ever had.

It ignores terrain except in attacking in fungus squares - native life gets an advantage. Also, attacks on sea are 1 to 1, so morale or Psi specific modifications are the dominant issues.

Elite would be the highest morale level of a regular unit. So an Elite hovertank attacking a demon boil will have a 50% advantage. Psi ground combat is 3 to 2 in favor of the attacker. If you have Dream twister you will have +100%. It's usually better to attack than defend, unless you have trance units.

sometimes I am a trance unit

Do you mean in a trance? I used to build trance formers. I kept getting that cartoon song in my head everytime I seen them (Robots in the sky). So I stopped building them.

Umm, Krushala, it's
"Robots in DISGUISE", not "in the sky"

=)

So in general, is Elite and Demon Boil basically equal? (say there was no 3 to 2 bonus)

Wow either my memory of that is clouded or I never knew the right words anyway.

City defenses do affect psi combat as well. Along with sensors I think.

I can't believe my computer locked up after posting that message. My ISP sucks. I might lock up after posting this one.

Yes, broadly speaking, Demon boil = Elite built unit. The game manual (p.69) lists the equivalent morale levels for native lifeforms vs built units as follows:

Very Green = Hatchling
Green = Larval Mass
Disciplined = Pre-Boil
Hardened = Boil
Veteran = Mature Boil
Commando = Great Boil
Elite = Demon Boil

Hope this helps,
Nell

PS: Many factors influence psi combat, but these are the basic equivalent morale levels.
