There seem to be a lot of us around suddenly. How about we use this thread to discuss things that are obscurely British and no-one from elsewhere will understand.

Use as much slang as possible and references to obscure daytime TV shows that won't get transferred to the US are to be encouraged.

Topics of the day:
Henmania and the Canadian menace, getting Hanged for high treason, Bristol is too hilly, Reading is cool?, London is a tiny village and only Eastenders is reality. Why did the royal family clone Diana and marry her to Bonnie Prince Edward? Who are the dead bodies in Finn and Lewis' yard? (that is a bit sad that one) Is Luis Amor Rodriguez dead? (that's so obscure I barely understand it) Aynesley, comedic cooking genius or a bit of an arse? Why on earth would anyone let Lawrence the camp alter a room in their house.
That'll do. Or post some other gibberish.

Mike, I think you're high as a kite.

If you have nothing to say, why don't you start a BLAH thread ?

This being a UK topic, is anyone listening to the Mark and Lard Show ?
MikeH II posted 07-01-99 10:21 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for MikeH II  Click Here to Email MikeH II
This all makes sense Red, honest.

I'm not listening to Mark and Lard, they are pretty good but I think they were better when they were on later, basically because I'd listen to them then.

Latest cricket score

New Zealand 161-6.

MikeH II posted 07-01-99 10:35 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for MikeH II  Click Here to Email MikeH II
I didn't watch the wedding either, I've got cable so I had it on BBC1, ITV, Sky News and CNN all at once. Thank goodness Sky1 had expensive American imports to keep me occupied.

Any more good Jill Dando conspiracy theories?

There must be someone with a theory to link the Aptly Named Princess Di, Jill Dando and Sophie whatsherface.

A. Habib is from East Reading! Good to see Reading represented in international sport... I mean cricket.

I think they all had the same hairdresser.

Di, Dando and Sofa - not Aftab Habib.

Perhaps he's behind it. The evil mass murdering hairdresser of Old London Town.

So who's gonna be next? Is anyone safe?

Presumably hippies don't have too much to worry about. Who else has the appropriate haircut?

Thinking about it Mrs Resource Consumer has a fairly similar one (wrong colour though). Is this my chance, do her in, blame Sweeney Todd and run off with Deidre.

Pub/pie shop in Reading called Sweeney Todd's. So witty.

At the moment, I'm ploughing through all the old episodes of the Sweeney 9:00 on Granada Gold.

Great, gratuitous violence and.......

SHUT IT

You've been missing some great haircuts and flared trousers as well.

They are very fashionable again now, I see people dressed like that wandering around Reading every day. With haircuts to match. I blame Jarvis Cocker.

New Zealand 200/8 off 75 I'm going home which involves fighting my way through the blue blazered, cream trousered, straw boatered thongs of the Henley Regatta.

Good luck - I'm off to fight my way through the tourists at Piccadilly Circus, then the Piccadilly line then the District Line. Very unpleasant.

Why does Reading pool have such a small car park?

MikeH II posted 07-01-99 03:16 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for MikeH II  Click Here to Email MikeH II
Which one? Central? I don't know. Central pool is about a 5 minute walk from my house.
Noisy posted 07-01-99 04:27 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Noisy  Click Here to Email Noisy
Central sounds familiar. I swam in a Masters comp. there a year or two back, and won a bunch of medals. Now, this doesn't normally happen, but when I returned home I realised that it had been the Cup Final - which explained the lack of competition .

It will have been Central, that's where Reading swimming club was based. One of my friends used to swim for them. Few years ago now. The car park is tiny.

Yeah, it sucks... we teach the world how to play our game, then they proceed to kick our arses all over the place. What's all that about, eh?

At least Henman won. Always good to beat the French.

It's not just cricket either, it's every sport, Football (that's Soccer to any lurking Yanks ), Rugby. Basically we are only world leaders in pub sports like Snooker and Darts. I wonder why?

Mike:

We've got lots of world champions (and a world football club champion isn't too far away ). It's just that mainstream news reporting only concentrates on the "big" sports.

I'm sure we've got quite a few boxing champions (but that is relatively easy when there are three parallel world ruling bodies). There are a couple of our female athletes that are the best in the world, but I don't follow athletics much nowadays, so I can't recall their names. Sailing, shooting and judo must be good for a few more.

And rowing, of course. I saw Holmes and Pinsent in their new four blowing everyone else away only a week or so ago.

And what about triathlon. We've had a Brit world champion for a number of years now.
