Everytime I fire up SMAC I end up playing for ages, it really get's you with the one more turn thing.

What I have found though is that I don't very often fire SMAC up. Maybe it's because I don't often have a lot of time to play, maybe it's something else. Anyone else find this happening to them?

Mike, I believe you're suffering from the next stage of SMACaddiction. You've had too much of the product, and you need to see other things. But you'll come back to SMAC, I know it, you know it... Resistance is futile, fighting it is irrelevent

That will be even more true if you get yourself into PBEM.

The PBEM stage is worse than the earlier single player SMACaddiction...

You end up checking your email every half hour to see if it's your turn yet...

Posting almost "Roleplaying" topics in the Multiplayer forums...

Help Me, please.. I need Help !

The Institute for Irrefuteable and Irreproduceable addiction treatment team has moved to the Firaxis Off-Topic forums, please go there for treatment.

I've come back to work after 6 days off, I have a ton of stuff to do with a new account starting, and I am checking my email every fifteen minutes pulling my hair out (what is left) and waiting impatiently to be able to play more turns. (if this keeps up I will join more pbem game, something I can not afford to do.)

SMAC addiction.......

How does one participate in a PBEM?

SMAC is very addicting. With my slow machine I average 5 turns an hour. One of the problems is that you can't save while the AI is moving, so when you finally see one of your pieces flash, instead of saving the game , I want to make one more move to payback the AI.

Currently I am playing the Believers, just finished beating the wrongheaded Peacekeepers into submission over the weekend, so this week I will spend 1-2 hours a night rebuilding and positioning troops to beat up that atheist Hive this comming weekend.

I'm ahead in everything except wealth, (those irreverent Morganites are next), thanks to the agnostic, now submissive, University giving me all their research, and the extensive use of my missionary probes.

I enjoy the role playing aspect of the game, to think of how Marian, renamed Dolly Lame' in this game, would manage her congregation.

Yes, I probably spend to much time on SMAC, but I also go to work and take care of my family, who needs to sleep?

Thanks,
Geof the Wicked

Yes, there's that horrible fear of yourself as you're gloating over your score at then end of the game and you know that it's already waaaay past bedtime, and your inner monologue is pleading not to start another game. Begging. Knowing perfectly well that you're about to start another game and that sleep is hours away (usually when you start to hear birds singing outside).

Recently I have been saved from SMAC by SMAC itself. Loading patch 3.0 introduced a new tendency to crash after about an hour of gameplay. No more marathons until that gets straightened out grrr. (but great for re-establishing normal sleep patterns).

Well I've sent out the challenge for my first PBEM. We'll have to see how things progress. I'm a bit worried I'll load up SMAC and do my PBEM turn then keep playing for hours and hours....

I admit it, that "only one more turn" addiction leaves me red-eyed and bleary in the mornings. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Well so long I've got to get busy with that last turn....

PBEM is the devil's work. Far more addicting than SP. I hear Nell is in more than twenty!

A few months from now, her turn time will expand to the point that she will have to hire someone to do the mundane stuff. By Christmas she will have to build a new facility to house her staff, which at that time will be larger than the Firaxis team.

And still she will join more games....

Jimmy:
Make that 30+ ... although only about 5-10 turns arrive each day, so it's not as scary as it sounds

Mind you, I've already hired people to sleep for me and eat for me, so how long before I hire people to SMAC for me? hehe

Of course, when my Cloning Vats come online (currently being built in the cupboard under the stairs), there will be more than enough me's to go round...

Nell... spreading like a horrible plague...
