I believe I have isolated 5 distinct bugs in SMAC.

1) The rangeless artillery.
When you tell an artillery unit to attack, the cursor changes. If it is over a square within two squares of your unit, it is in a target, otherwise it is crossed out. If you try to attack a unit, it won't let you. But you can click on terrain improvements! I have destroyed improvements from across the map.

2) The movement point problem
When you get a Unity pod with a sea unit, and have 2 movement points left, and an Isle of the Deep surfaces, your extra movement point is lost. What's up with that?

3) The fungus gyp
Nutrient, Resource, and Energy bonuses, along with solar collectors, mines, echelon mirrors, do nothing to improve production from fungus squares. I can understand about the terrain improvements, but bonuses should work. If you aren't going to get a bonus from a terrain improvement, they shouldn't let you build it.

4) The, "We have you on visual" bug
Periodically, when I have just taken a city, the opposing faction leader will hail me. But I can press "OK" until doomsday and nothing will happen. The message box goes away and comes right back again.

5) The gender switching exercise
When you customize your factions name, and switch from the default gender, other factions don't pick up on it. For example, when I'm the Gaians and I put in male as gender, everyone greets me as "Pact Sister". A minor niggle, to be sure, but it should be fixed.

That's about all I have for now.

I would say 2 and 3 are features of the games not bugs. The only one I have experienced is 4. This seemed to come with patch 3.0

And, punishment spheres don't effect research at all! This is horrible!

#1 I've never experienced (but never tried, either)

#2 is a game feature. The act of opening the pod, or getting repaired by a monolith, costs one movement point. (e.g. if your ship has 3 movement points, and tou get an isle surfacing when you move to a pod square, you have 1 turn left (3 -1 to get to the pod square, -1 for opening the pod) Same with rovers on land - you can fire at a mindworm, but can't move away 9on the same turn as you uncover it from a pod)

#3 You can get fungus bonuses, but only with specific researches. The concepts.txt says:

"(3) Fungus squares can be tapped for resources; the resource level provided by a
fungus square is determined by the number of Centauri technologies you have discovered"

#4 I've had, but only when playing the game on my laptop - never on my home rig

#5 I changed a Miriam/female to a Sven/male (to continue my Sven Tales) and Lal was calling me Brother Sven. I don't remember though if I was referred to as pact brother or pact Sister.

1) The game says that you can't bombard, but you can if you click anyway. You can't attack anything, but you can blow stuff up.

2) I can understand that opening a pod takes a movement point. But the thing is that it doesn't. If you get a sonar pod, or mineral resources etc. it doesn't cost you anything. If you move onto it with more pod, and get an Isle with 2 points, you lose than 2 movement points and get an Isle, you still have 2 left. But if you move onto a the last one. And I've experienced that using a monolith takes the whole rest of the turn.

3) I don't mean getting more stuff out of fungus. I mean a bonus that appears on the map (crystals, plants, an energy symbol). None of these work on fungus, no matter the tech level (and I've been to Transcendant Thought 45 or so)

4) This one only happens periodically, but it does so on my PII 450 gaming rig.

5) Yeah, some parts of the gender switching work, but you're always a Pact X (where X is the default gender).

I agree with Krushala (why does this seem to happen so often). Although I have run into problem #4 periodically throughout aall the patches.
