This is a start-over of "The Myth of Quick Conquest" in the form of a challenge to all comers.

Conditions:

MAP = Huge Map of Planet. This is the most challening map for conquest; it favors buliding heavily.

Level = Transcend

Settings = Ironman, blind research, no unity pad, no pods, intense rivalry off

Faction = any except Hive or Believers (too easy)

preferences = Fog of War = on, Calculate odds before attacking = off

Goal = earliest total conquest (no submissive pact brothers).

Date to beat: Darkstar claims he can conquer any map before 2250, but has yet to deliver on Huge Map of Planet. My personal best on this map is after 2400 (as Gaian), but I'm sure somebody can beat me on that.

2445 as Morgan
2412 as Miriam

I will beat you yet;(

Dilithium Dad... it is only a matter of luck in the seeding. After that, everything falls in place.

Your only contention is that the Huge Map of Planet, with its high fungus and great size, should be immune to mad rush. It's not. One random seeding of dropping everyone close enough will make a speed rush victory possible. But I find rushing *that* fast to not be as fun as my normal play style for Single Player, which is a Dark side Builder, not the mad rover rusher people seem to think I am.

Best so far... Gaians, 2292. Started on center continent. Lal, Morgan, and Believers were on top right continent. Spartans, UoP, and Hive were on the L. Believers wiped away Lal and Morgan, and then had problems with Worms. All were Green Faction of course. (I popped a couple of early pods that yielded foils. Loaded each with captured Worms). Miriam surrendered when the Northern Expeditionary Worms reached her capital. One continent, 3 opponent factions down.

Meanwhile, The Hive and Spartans beat on each other serious enough to keep either from being a real power. Nor could they resist the minor force I had sent out as explorer/conquistadors. I don't remember which took the last UoP city. The L fell to the Southern Worm Force, with a Hive surrender and total capture of all Spartan cities, including the converted UoP ones.

Sheer size won't protect Huge Planet from being rushed. Someone will get it by 2250. It probably WON'T be me. That's due to the fact that I don't enjoy the mad Rush, just the Dark one.

DD...I have conquered this with the Gaians at 2357 as my best but a few things were different than your conditions. First it was the level of Talent(I did a 2382 on next level above talent, whatever that is..dont want to check right now..same faction too)
Secondly not ironman because if I just want to stop at anypoint and quit playing ,I want to save and I really dont know how ironman works so I dont bother. Also I dont cheat so I am not concerned about the ironman issues.
Also I play blind off but everything else falls in place I think. Anyway what I am saying is I agree with DS that alot depends on seeding and game starting conditions/rules. I am going to try all your settings and see how I do although I have yet to play Transcend level. I will get back to you on this in a while..it could take that long since I have never tried it before. Wish this warmongering fool good luck will ya.

Old Warrior: Good Luck. But you won't need it.

I'd skip down two levels from Transcend. There is the wrong kind of cheats (in favor of) in Transcend for the Human player. Librarian is the last level that the A-non-I has any advantage to you only being human.

DS...so you are saying that transcend level has cheats in my favor and is actually easier for total conquest than Librarian?
I checked my game and the level above talent is librarian...and that is the highest level I have now beaten, and it was with the Gaians at MY 2384(not2382)And you are telling me to play this level for the toughest challenge for DD's conditions..correct? Let me know.

Its a mixed blessing. Transcend has a major credit bonus over the normal credit bugs in SMAC. Allows for more infrastructure and rush buying of items. (Real Morgan level). Downside is you have a slightly stronger drone problem. But in serious rush tactics, that won't even bother you unless you are trying UoP. Also, the A-non-I gets to build trash faster than at any other level, but that's not a problem. Captured Drone problem is much more likely to bite you in the keister (Opponent Engine doesn't face drones the way you do, ever).

There are a few oddities in certain combat results/random capture as well, but it might just be the Little Monster having fun.

Enjoy the game. Maybe you will transcend. Or just have everyone right beside you for easy conquest.
