Hey all, I actually just got the game 2 days ago, so don't bash on me because i'm playing on the citizen setting =).
But how long does it take you normally to play a game?? I'm playing on the Planet Map, citizen level, standard rules (ie: blind ON).
And It's taken me like 5 hours just to wipe out the Peacekeepers and Believers (that bitch Miriam deserved it). Yang took out the morganites, and now me, yang, and santiago are left, with me in slight lead of them in tech and land and everything. But, Lal and Miriam were small, yang and santiago are big, how long does this usually take?
(ps: I probably repeated myself a few times there, umm....oops=) )

It's like a diaper - Depends.
When I first started playing the game at the lower settings - 8 hours on the standard planet seemed to be what it took. At a certain point, you may break the back of your opponents, and then the game goes much quicker. The AI will pump units into whatever city your attacking, after a while it runs out of resources, and you can just roll over that faction.
As you get better, simple games take less time. Then - you crank up the difficulty and the time goes up again. Then - you crank up the map size. I've had a Morgan game go about 26 hours on a huge map and transcend setting. About 22 hours was pure fun, then about 4 hours of mop up to clean out opponents and transcend. I was so close to winning in three different ways that I went back to a save game and played it out the three ways.
Time also depends upon your playing style. At the harder difficulty settings, you will be more successful if you micro-manage everything.

I'm just starting to "climb the ladder" in difficulty. It still takes me about 2+ days to finish a game. I steal a couple of hours at work, take most of one or two evenings at home, and occassionally, I end up late for work the next morning, after an evening/night/early morning of trying to beat back the planet and some scumbag(s) like The Believers, and/or The Hive until O -dark :30 in the morning!
