Open question:

Is anybody out there more debased and addicted to this game than I am? I am currently involved in 12 pbem games, lurk and post in three forums regularly, and still manage some SP. I play at home and at work. The work boss condones it (aren't you jealous?) and the home boss tolerates it (barely). I've probably averaged 8+ hours a day of SMAC related activities since day one of the retail release with 4+ hours a day averaged on the demo since day +1 of its release. In the words of Madness, I'm solid gone!

BTW, don't bother flaming me and telling me what an idiot I am, how I'm wasting my life, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. My wife and friends tell me that already! For, even the flickering kiss of trippin's MK8 flamethrower would be but an icecube to me, lost as I am in the deepest pit of SMAC hell.

Just wait when yo see them missles coming from anywhere in the world, or when the game crashes without any warning, you'll quickly decided not to play as much.
It still rulez, though!

threeover,

Been there, done that... infinite range missiles are merely a temporary challenge and both of my computers (home & work) play SMAC without a hitch. I do feel sorry for those who can't deal with missiles (whiny losers ) and those whose computers putz out them.

The biggest problem with my PC conking out on me (other than all the disapointed PBEMers) is that my wife came to enjoy all the attention I gave her last night (a mistake I know, but I was tired and weak )

Now she is talking about sabotaging the computer once we get it back, oh the Horror!

My wife hid my SMAC CD. I haven't made a big deal yet, just to prove a point, but I'm getting itchy...

And I had done a minimum install because I have only two 1 GB drives, which are slower than my 40x CDROM.

Hi JAMstillAM,
Yes, you are one sick, sick puppy. I recommend that you admit yourself into
The Michael Ely & Brian Reynolds Clinic for the Terminally SMAC Addicted. It's in Palm Springs, California, just down the block from Betty Ford.
See you there. Actually, I am already there, er, here.

JAM, I just fall short of:
1. I'v been begging but I barely managed to approach 10 games they let me in.
2. I tell to myself I'm stilll playng the game, but realize the only continuous game I do, is attempts to accelerate 7-sided PBEM starts. I practically stopped playing SP.

OTOH my boss just frowns adn moans "marioooo...", there I boldly yell "Sowhat?" and he "no, nothing, just remember to...", "yesyes, be right there, just one minute..."

BUT

when I linger at work after hours the security guards/reception personnel (kinda what you do, IIRC?) come by, and they're even happier than me when they can watch me take a PBEM turn in the evening.
One of them got at home CivII for *_PlayStation_*, and asked to give him lessons, which I arranged putting up sort of a didactic net with CivII Gold MP on our LAN. My wildest ex-trainer dream coming true.
And I tell me I'm rising prospective future SMAC players too.

Quick, somebody give him a patch of superProSMAC!
Nah, you ain't a serious case unless you've been in the forums even before the demo came out.

Yes ze SMAC addiction iz a currrrious illnezz. You zee Zcienteests ave rezently dizcovered a group of rezeptors in ze lower cerebellum (ze part of the brain vich contrrrolz movement and coordinazion) vich zay ave named ze SMACodes. Ze more you blay ze SMAC game, ze more rezeptors are created. Oontil zee SMACodes take over zee intire cerebellum, leaving zee perzon oonable to coordinate any movementz bezides a rapid tvitching of ze fingers oont flickering of ze eyes. Ze SMAC addict becomez oonable to move from zeir zeat, beginz to loze ze coordination of zeir mouth, cauzing zem to drrrrooool, oont eventually lose of schphincter control resultink in incontinence.
Zeir iz alzo evidence showing zat the player goes into a trance like drrream ztate. zee only way out of zis state iz to transcend to a higher plain, become supreme leader of zee world, conqvest zee world with allies or by yourself. Zee mental high zat follows zis "vinning ze game" iz inversely proportional to ze number of timez ze game iz completed.

In extreme cases of "losing" in zis trance like state, ze psychosomatic trauma causes zee body to become comatose oont in extrrrreme cases to DIE!

But zeir is a remedy. SMACodone, is oon new droog vich iz fed into ze body over oon 24 hour period, shutting down zee SMACodes!

SMAC addicts, ve can elp you. Boot virst you moost realize you ave a prooblem.
