If you discover Secrets of the Human Brain by linking an alien artifact you get the message about stimulates research, but you do not get the free tech.

Firaxis, please fix this bug.

Series II,

Do you have the saved game for this? Check and see if you were the first to discover it. If not, you do not get the free tech.

I think that is how it is supposed to happen. Same with secrets of alpha centauri and creation.

this I can confirm, saw it many times, that's why I refrain now from linking artifacts before I get SotHB.

I just thought it behaved like finding Philosophy in a goody hut in CivII, so I didn't bother.

If you have other Techs available, reload right before you linked and try again. It picks the Tech randomly based on what you can immediately get. Unless the SotHB is the only one left, you'll probably get a different Tech after a couple of reloads.

Oh no, not the Picard Manoeuver (sp?) again !

Koshko, reloading to get an acceptable result is something I call cheating. Don't do it.

hehehe, but wasn't it Captain Kirk, who cheated to succesfully get past "Kobayashi Maru" training no_way_out test mission?

- trekkie, I would have been, hadn't I spent my life CIVing and SMACing now

-and, Koshko, you'd be forgiven ONLY if you're in the VERY early stages of your learning curve, I went trhu it too, but you've to grow up then.

and if you use IronMan, even if you save, exit, restart the game & reload, it doesn't randomize unless you scramble the order of previous actions, or if you RESAVE each time b4 reloading (cousLee taught me this )

I bet you never thought of cartoons being in the datalinks but the game does say all of human history (or something to that effect)
