Author Topic:   Aerospace Complex hidden feature?

I think I found a hidden feature with the aerospace complex. I was killing off the hive and when i attemped to airdrop a unit into one of their undefended bases i got a message that said airdefenses in that base prevented airdrops. I looked in base and i saw only an aerospace complex. Tried this with another of their bases got the same result. Seems that aerospace complex's now are gonna be a bit more useful.

I don't think this is the air base. I think this means that they have a nearby air intercept unit.

Interesting! I think its just the aerospace complex, I thought, er, assumed that it was, and common knowledge at that. I seem to remember checking this and finding it applies even if the enemy has no air units. Could it be SAM units?
Someone please verify and post.

It's AAA units, as I recall - I had a similar situation, and I am digging through my collection of saved game positions that had interesting quirks or features.

I'm pretty sure it's the aerospace complex. I have done mass assualt against the hive, and he had NO units left on his continent. still couldn't airdrop into his AC protected bases. I did airdrop just outside of the ZOC for the bases. It was the only tile on the continent that was not in base ZOC (with the magtubes he built, I captured about 10 bases that turn). All the bases that had an AC, I could not drop near. So it's safe to say it's not a unit created feature.

Yes it is the aerospace complex. It doesn't mention it in the manual but that's what it is. If you have infilitrated data links you can check their cities

Dont' it give the reason when you can't airdrop? AsI remember I found out because I got a message saying "you can't airdrop bc of Aerospace compleks"...
Anyway, another feature is that they give +100% to defenders against aircraft.

Yes, it is the Aerospace Complex, I'm sure. Had this with units with no AAA in the base or nearby, and all the air defences decimated.
