Most of you know by now of my highly opinionated posts, my prejudiced beliefs, and my ability to get pissed off at the AI.
Now lets talk about something real. Balance...Yes, thats right...Balance...
SMAC is the most unbalanced game ever since a card game called 'Samuri' (if youve played this, you know what im talking about). Someone always ends up as a quick superpower...someone always ends up in the ditch (this is usually, and rightfully so, the Beilievers the worthless $hit faction that they are)Someone always decides to be a pain in your ass...and someone always is hanging off your sac. The computer fights and fights over the same territory as it switches hands as frequently as Techs (I call the phenomenon where the AI passes around its new techs to everyone "the trade game") And the best part...The AI DOES NOT OBSERVE REPUTATION!!!!!!!! DAMNIT I HATE THE AI!!!!!!! Deidre needs to die. this has no place in this tread, but its the truth. Im done ranting for now.

Hey whirly - read up on eastern European history from Philip of Macedonia to modern times - F*CK, the whole world's still fighting in the Balkans!?!?
Everything you described as unbalanced is exactly what's happened in the real world.
I mean Germans fighting Australians, South Africans and Indians in *Libya*, over a worthless chunk of the Brit Empire, for how many times? (Tobruk in '41 and '42)
Deirdre's a babe, but you're right, Miriam needs to go meet her maker ASAP, everytime.
Tell me the real world ain't dominated by one or two superpowers, and full of pains in the ass?????????
Keep up your posts, they make us all laugh.

* The Believers, when played well, are an extremely powerful human faction. The fact the A.I cannot handle them properly shouldn't discourage you.
* SMAC is unbalanced, but it's morgan and the UoP that suffer. I've often seen Deirdre eliminated quickly by the believers.
* Writing a decent A.I for a game like SMAC is an incredible undertaking. The SMAC A.I has several obvious, glaring flaws, and not merely in the diplomatic area either, but it still ranks as the best Artificial Intelligence in a computer game EVER. I don't know if that's an excuse or not, but it needs to be remembered.
