Hiya people,

Is this a bug or a feature? When I move troops around, I often find that if I leave a unit in a city for awhile (such as to re-inforce the guard, or to defend a newly acquired city), said unit will decide to make that city his new home. No cntrl-H from me, no use of the pull-down order menu, the unit just decides to be supported from the new city. If this is a feature, how do I turn it off? It can be a real pain when your needlejet strike force decides to home in a city already on the verge of droneliness, especially if you like playing FM-Wealth whilst maintaining a standing air force.

I have found this to happen also when you airdrop a unit to take an opponents city.

As far as I know... a bug.

I have noticed that units capturing a city sometimes change to belong to that city. I don't use Drop tactics, so its not that.

Also, I have had units swap their homes for just HEALING in a city. This can be particularly irritating if the unit was Independant. This is how I usually lose those precious Independant homed units to city supported units.

But its just one of the (literally) 100+ bugs in the game. Good thing Firaxis isn't Microsoft, or people would be upset about the amount of bugs...

Thanks for the confirmation. I suspected it might be because I was healing units away from home. It really does affect the flow of your game when trying to build up cities near the front lines. I personally rate this bug a game-mangler (I have to change my basic strategies a bit...just enough to make micro-managing slightly less fun :-)

PS I'm one of those people who doesn't mind a bug or two so long as it doesn't affect gameplay. Sadly, many of the bugs in SMAC do affect gameplay. What the hell was the 98% rating in PC Gamer for??? Concept and design? Because implementation certainly fell around the 70% score level.

SMAC demos well. Like Final Fantasy 7, for instance. You got to invest some serious time and give it a solid workout to get familiar with it to recognize its inconsistant behaviour. The high reviews are do to that and the fact that it hasn't much competition. Little competition means you don't have to be that GREAT to be thought of "great". And besides, as the sequel TBS game to Civ 2 by the designers of Civ, it HAD to get equal to better than Civ 2.

You shouldn't go on media reviews too much. Its better to go on friends say so... at least that way, you know their tilts.
