I was there when the first Civilization came out. I loved it. I constantly thought about it. I even dreamt about it! When Civilization 2 came out I were, once again, sold. I played it and I played it and I played it. Then I played it, played it some more and finally I played it some more (ok. I guess you get my point  . You know the most specific thing I knew about the real seven wonders of the world was how many shields it required to built them (hm� maybe I just played that game one to many times�). Anyway years passed (they tend to do that) and the my favourite game still were� you guessed it: Civilization 2. Then when SMAC was announced I started to dream about that. I read all the information one could get about it before it was released (you have no idea how many of your post I have read  for instance; what ever happened to Brother Greg?). Then finally the game was released and I bought just the same. I played it, played it again (sorry if this post is getting boring, I�ll get to my point right away) and played it some more. But then something started to happen. Every game I played started to end this way: �Damn Yang. I should have known that he would nuke my capital (hq). Damn damn! I dont have anything to retaliate with. Wait! What�s this? Scenarioeditor? He he! Taste this� and then another long game were totally wasted (but the planetbusting was quite fun  . No it is very hard for me to play any of these Civ-games anymore. I even tried Imperialism II, which I in fact think is one of the most intelligent games around. But with same result. Something has simply happened to my patience. And here comes the final part. 3 days ago I bought Fifa 99!!!! Half a year ago I would have sworn that a thing like that never would have happened. And I think its one hell of a game, especially when you play against another player in flesh and bone. As you can understand I am and have always been a die-hard Civ-fan. But now it starts to look like that I am becoming an ex die-hard Civ-fan. Does anyone know this illness. Does it end with the dead or is there a cure?

Have Faith Brother Climaticus, For verily doth the wisdom of Sid and Brian shine though in the light of SMAC... Praise upon Praise !
<Ahem>, Sorry. Firstly there's nothing wrong in enjoying action based games, I have recently returned to the fold after a period of Xwing Alliance... Fifa 99 is also a favourite of mine.
I found a cure in playing Email games, which test your patients in other ways ( "Where is my b*$!*"& turn ?" for example ). But I haven't given up on SMAC, the drones needed me.
BTW: If you still feel the temptation to use the scenario editor then I recommend that you take a piece of A4 paper and write "Congratulations ! YOU WIN" on it... Hold this paper in front of your monitor and you will instantly win any game ! No need to use the scenario editor at all.
