When I achieve diplomatic or enconomic victory the game says that I "united all of planet under the XXX banner". What do I expect next? No less than seeing ALL the cities in the map become MINE!!!WHOAHAHAHA!!! Anybody else feels the same?

Actually, yes. I also hate the way economic and diplomatic victory HAVE THE SAME GODDAMN TEXT! |

I've just finished my second game. I was planning a large attack on evil Miriam when I noticed that I had many, many votes. Checked all the factions' votes and discovered that with Deidre's votes I had 3/4. Deidre would vote for me in exchange for one lousy tech, so I tried and won the game. What? Evil Miriam suddenly united behind me? All over? No nice attack? I just kept on playing and of course nothing was changed, I guess it was just a hallucination. |

Yes, the endings are really lame. You don't even get a nice little movie as reward. Esp the Transcendence Victory. I thought there would be some nice ending, but no, it's just so bloody plain, like an anti-climax. |

Just revel in the glory of victory. After all, is there a cool movie when you win at Monopoly? |

I'm with cbraga on this one... When I play SMAC I tend to go for the Trancsend or Conquest victories, the others just feel "cheep". |

I really have to agree. If only cornering the market would give you some incredible power, like absolute control over everyone's energy, it wouldn't feel as cheap when you decide to finish the game. Once you buy the planet out, you can keep playing as a very powerful force. Same thing with diplomatic victory, the manuel says that if someone defies the council's will, then everyone else must ally to destroy that faction. If, however, noone defies and you keep playing, your enemies and allies are all the same. Maybe if you could have submissive pacts with all other factions. Also, if a faction is at war with the rest of planet, anyway, why shouldn't they defy the election? Won't heart much, anyway. I do agree that you should at least get some satisfaction from your many tedious years of energy hording, or diplomacy building. Sure, you still win, but shouldn't you be able to revel in your glory?High Priest |

Agree with some of ya guyz... victory is rather plain, perhaps given all the cool videos/animations throughout the game with the secret projects completion.

In fact, even victory by conquest can be rather weird. I was once proclaimed a winner after I captured the last land base, even though there was a bunch of enemy sea bases scattered around the planet (too bad, you can't make orbital insertion on water ). I just wonder what it's called "Mine, all mine!"? |

Yeah, it is disappointing. At least MOO and Civ2 has some little movies depending on the ending. Star Control II - one of the best endings, even though it was lax in video, but at least it was an immersive ending.CrayonX |
