I've seen quite a few original (mis)spellings, intended or not of my name... Off the top of my head:
A red run
AreDuran

The one above that made it to the title of this message (congratulations Trip') is my favorite so far... exact same letters, same order, and it actually made sense. To learn more about it, put your anti-radiation suit on and go read the Uranium235-flame in the thread "AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH !!!!!"

Let's see how creative you can get. Give me some alterations on the name, and maybe an explanation or a silly story to go with it... Try to keep something of the original (letters, sound, whatever). The winner gets a brand new ACME Asbestos Jacket Mk4 !

Bring it on, guys !

Are DHR an...

An what?

An example of three consonants put together in a list.

Yes, I believe they are MikeH well done. Are you bored?

Yes. That's why I'm posting in this thread, who are you?

I'm MikeH.

but I'm MikeH.

Yes, I'm afraid you are quite mad.

Oh dear, does that mean what I think it means?

Do you think it means you have to go and sit in the corner dribbling and being fed mind altering drugs?

Yes.

Well no then, actually you just have to write gibberish that no-one understands.

I'm doing that already!

Good.

As we all know Narhdera is one of the many Lapplander words for snow, this one refers to the quality of snow that falls gently and peacefully on an early winters night, the kind of snow that makes us think of family and harmony.

What this Swiss linguistics whiz has cleverly done is reverse the spelling and thus through an ancient Masonic rite as actually subverted the meaning into something slightly more sinsiter...

While trippin' in his drug induced enlightened state (or was that Trippin' when he sober?) came close to realizing when he stumbled upon A red H ran was not that our Swiss comrade has the mind of a 6 year old, no far from it.

As anyone who has regularly corresponded with this "nice, friendly, pleasant gentleman" can attest whenever one of his emails arrive at your computer a shiver will run down your spine and their is the disturbing scent of something slightly charred.

No, A red H ran is the paraphrase of "A red Hell ran across the Earth" this man is a demon I say! and he will slowly turn us all into is drooling servants. We must arise and stop him,(quick Nell turn him into a newt) we still have the chance before he completes his demonic scheme. Arise I say before A red H' runs across your world.

A red H ran, and ran, and ran, for to catch his father,
Who played SMAC all day and to H said, "I really can't be bothered."
H then cried, and went back outside and there he found Imran.
Who was red, white and blue, (a Republican too) and of Sid, a brother.
Little H wailed and Imran sailed through a lesson in economics.
But all H wanted was to let his dad know he was haunted by reading the comics.
Said Imran to H, "Comics are great, there's money to be made.
And besides, if you read them, I'm sure you'll agree then, you'll really make the grade."
Then down H sat on his little divan and read the book 'Ran'.
And that is the story of how A red H read Ran.

I can't recall here the original english title.
It was a novel by a Scandinavian writer (I guess).
In italian is: "Il senso di Smilla per la neve".
It has also been made a movie, IIRC Smilla was Julia Ormond.

It was about that Greenland born Danish woman, who could tell everything about snow and ice, and had to solve the enigma about a kid falling from a roof, starting from his footprints, and ended with an international x-files like plot.
Your snow-joke seemd like a nearly exact quote paraphrased from that book.

Smilla is snow. There was artsy Euro flick some years back called "Smilla." Trust MoSe to make these incredibly obscure connections.

Smila's Sense of Snow, looked at copies of the book and saw the start of the movie before wandering off to something more pressing or entertaining.

Yeah I checked the author at home, he's Peter Heg, written in 1992, luckily you know the title coz the original wasn't of course in english but in danish. I think it was a good novel; I didn't see the movie.

And freely mixing and merging the several inspirations:

Snow A-white and the seven A-red Hrans

(of course Gaia is the stepmother. or was it Cinderella?)

(now you'll just have to roast in hell for uncovering my machiavelic plan, Goob )

and

JAMstillIS really deserves it for his excellent and highly creative limerick

Both of you will receive a brand new, fully tested Asbestos Jacket Mk4 shortly, through the mail. Let me know when you receive it .

Thanks to all for the good fun...

PS: btw, ejrolon, I *am* a Star Wars fan (and I have to wait 'till September for Phantom Menace to get to Europe )

I thought that introducing your name into the story would be over kill, but I was tempted.
I was also tempte to hit the dozen mark for spelling and grammar mistakes, but I decided to ease up and not quite make that.

I haven't checked but it does sound (Aredhran that is) faintly middle earthish. Is it?

For those interested in the "real" story behind my nickname...

I'm a die-hard AD&D player and Aredhran is my favorite character, I'm still playing it (tonight's the night). He's a 9th level human ranger, started as a 0-level about 5-6 years ago. I could probably write a book with his adventures, but I just don't have the time...

And Goob, you're right it about the Middle-earth reference. But I don't think you'll find it anywhere in the books, I made it up (or at least I *think* I did ). I just tried to make it sound like the names of the heroes in Tolkien's Masterpiece.

Mr. A-red-h-ran (if that _really is_ your name).

I don't remember anything about colored letters in Tolkien's works. And certainly if they were mentioned, there was nothing about their chosen mode of transport.

Yeah right. Next you'll be telling me that there was a Nazgul named Ablacknflew. Or an elf named Agreyefloated. Get real!

Radagast was brown...
Saruman was white (?) then multi colored (?)
Cool I am losing my absolute memory of everthing that happened in the stories, it's time to read them again!!!!

Maybe the H is short for Hobbit, they were quite the runners... and one that was winded or drunk would be red in the face...

A Drunk Hobbit Ran naked through the trees?

Maybe now we have the real inside story on our good friend here.

Aredhran,

Gee, thanks. And, it's even my size. Actually, it's not a limerick, but who's gonna quibble. BTW, my apologies to Imran, but his name was the only thing that I could come up with to fit the construction I was going for. Notice the first letter and last three letters of each of the first two sentences (not lines) and that'll be clear.

Now, if people would send me pbem turns on a regular basis, I would have less time to flood the forums with bad poetry. Of course, that's assuming that my passwords work reliably.

tfs99: Tolkien's favorite faction. Hmm, as Treebeard might have said, that's a difficult one, I must rest to consider a few hundred long years. (The older elves in the group look skyward and sigh, remembering that the last time TB said that was about a million years ago, and that he has not yet reached a conclusion, or even a premise for that matter.)

JRR, you see, was a staunch Catholic, but not a fundamentalist, being quite prepared to accept pterodactyls and other vastly prehistoric creatures from long before man ever trod the earth. He was a capital-C Conservative, a Tory through and through, but who was sorrowed by the industrial revolution and its pollution, as he loved nature's green fields and forests. He was also a Don of great learning, but was horrified by insensitivity and cruelty.

So, Professor Tolkien was a Believer who eschewed Fundamentalism, a member of the University of Planet who rebelled against its bizarre and unbridled experimentation, a Green who was of the Orthodox political Right, a lover of economic freedom who was gravely concerned by Morgan's negative planet rating, an outspoken supporter of human rights who took issue with the complete lack of censorship and self-restraint espoused by Lal, a person who preferred harmony but could never bear Yang's authoritarian style, and an exponent of the right to defend oneself if push comes to shove but who would not have been comfortable with the Spartans' resort to arms as the first recourse.

I think that Tolkien would have to make his own faction. It would be presumptuous for me to suppose I could match his creative wits, but I suggest that his preferred faction would have a high planet rating, weak industry, moderate research (he didn't mind innovations such as tobacco, and fireworks for entertainment), low population limits, slow growth, and a preference for frontier government, green economy, vanilla values, and eudaimonia.

His preferred form of victory would have been Diplomatic, though he probably not have been entirely sorry to see a volcano swallow the Hive.

A red H ran through the night, hiding in the darkness, and enveloped by the trees.

A red H ran across the glaciers, blinded by the furious brightness, and swallowed by the expansive whiteness.

A red H ran down the mountain slopes, screaming to the gods, and sighing in the silence.

A red H ran.

A red H ran and ran while his name sake and creator sat watching in bemused quietness as he slowly and calmly drank another lager, and waited for the time he new was yet to come.
