My understanding is that the AI gets certain advantages against the human player in the higher levels, for example a higher industry rating or advantages when fighting native lifeforms. (Please tell me if Im wrong!)
My proposal is to be more flexible with these advantages as far as this is possible. So, in a game where the human player goes for transcendency and is leading in technology, it would be nice to have more competition, for example a bigger science bonus for the AI. (its my favorite playing style, but in most of the games Im so far ahead in technology that I can easily build all later special projects by myself, so I cant help winning the game anymore)
If this adjustable AI works, it could also solve the faction balance problem. I have never seen a strong Lal or Morgan in my games, at least in the later stages, while Miriam and Santiago are usually the big ones. I think that my playing style mainly causes this effect (Morgan is a little bit to weak nevertheless).
So in my example, the factions I fear most are Lal, Morgan and especially Zakharov, being the only ones who can possibly compete with me in technology, and these guys are happy when they live long enough to see me build one special project after another.
My proposal should not end up in: Help me, Im researching and the computer is the only one who profits by this., but I think it could really help the computer players.
