Yeah, and the Citizens' Defence Force is pretty macabre... and as for the "leader in horrible sphere thingie" you get when you beat another faction, well, I just click it off the screen as fast as I can!!
How about some nice clips of bunny rabbits frolicking in the Gaian groves? (With or without Deirdre... hehehe)

Someone, PLEASE, explain what is so "scary" about the Dream Twister?

I found the movie funny. There was this goofy looking guy in a Marilyn Manson-esque get up screaming away, but the fact that his screams happened to be silent took away from that effect. And so he reminded me of a gothic mime.

Other than that, you get some harmless Tarantulas, a pile of plastic skulls and more of the screaming guy.

Where's the scariness?

Al Gore: Those are real skulls, buddy. I was watching something about the Cambodian genocide, by Pol Pot, and that exact same building, and exact same skulls were shown. You are looking at former people

I believe the one I thought that was kind of strange was the Self Aware Colony. I think it was this one I seen that after it was over I just thought..."damn".

Okay, not plastic skulls, instead the not so toxic and less flexible organic skulls. Again, where's the scariness. What's so bad about skulls?

We all have one right inside our very heads, oh no! I guess I better lop off my own head so I won't be afraid of skulls anymore.

Build the telepathic matrix. That's pretty much as close to bunnies as you can get. Or the Xenoempathy Dome. Hmm.. why do the Gaians get all the feel-good projects?

Hmm... What's that hard-to-identify smoking substance in the DT movie? A body perhaps?

Yeah, the Dream Twister movie was well spooky - the fact that it was silent and all enhanced the effect for me. That last Spartan message printed at the end just made me wonder 'brrr- what happened there like'

The Self Aware Colony flick is v sinister too.

Personally, I think the Planetary Datalinks movie is a bit spooky. I want to know what happened to America?!?! Why did the Americans "learn so painfully?"

I'm guessing the history of SMAC in America went like this:

(Remember, Miriam comes from the "Christian States of America)

Around the time of WWIII/Twelve Minute War America starts cracking down and setting up information laws on the internet, ala Farenheit 451.

At this point, information, as Lal says, has become like water, and without out people shall riot. So goes America.

America goes Yang on rioting arse and crumbles into a brutal police state.

America imposes all sorts of new restricting, imperialist laws, including merging church and state. Thus creating the "Christian States of America."

Pretty similar to what most people predict will be the end of the US of A.

I thought the Citizens' Defense video looked cheesy, though the text was good. The Cloning Vats always creeps me out, even more so than DT (well, almost as much -- love its quote at the end).

Nell: the videos for Pholus Mutagen and Weather Paradigm are also more gentle and life-affirming. The fact that there are so few SP videos of their ilk seems to reflect a bias in the game towards the martial.

At this point, I've mostly been playing with the videos off -- I was reaching the point where I'd hit the space bar as soon as I heard the CD whirring. However, I turn 'em back on when I'm about ready to put Miriam in a punishment sphere.

Personally, one of my Fav Videos is the cyborg Factory because the Limerick in the background. I dunno, it seems that AC is a pretty seroius/uppity game, and when the slightest bit of humor is involved, I find it almost hilarious. Guess its the Contrast.

Somebody told me the Citizens Defense Force video was made to mimic Medeival Crusades murals. When you look at the pictures from that angle, the movie is quite effective.

The DT scenes are from Pot Pal in Cambodia? I thought it was some Holocaust video....

Actually, I thought that the Intro to the game was the worst movie because it gave me a feeling of "Hey, I played Civ and in MY world everyone is happy and it did NOT end like that!", but this planet look like that, and it's that fact that really scares all my synthetic guts out of me. But I agree, The DreamTwister is REALLY scary.

well if you kids are scaried of the dream twister vid. i recommend you don't watch the mov/doco 'baraka'. for that is where most of the vid shots came from.

The Theory of Everything vid is so peaceful, its a refreshing change.

I can't watch the Cloning Vats one, it turns my stomach to think that those creeps are dealing with living creatures.

The opening movie is so mind buggeringly pessimistic - Kinda grim really.

The Telepathic Matrix is one of the best vids, that poem she reads is just excellent.

I also like some of the 'for laughs' moments in the vids and tech monologues - namely the 'Longevity Vaccine', Graviton Theory 'what goes up better doggone well stay up...' lol. And the Nessus Mining Station '...let it wha, let it wha..' hilarious!

Its a pity the end vid is so pants, too short and, well, transcendental...
