Playing SMAC just now, and I noticed that land bases' borders do not extend into the sea. So that a sea unit that is within the boundary of the city, will still cause unhappiness because it is "away from home". The only way to have a sea unit at sea that does not cause unhappiness (apart from a high Police rating) is to have it within the borders of a sea base.As such I'd like to propose that Land bases' borders extend into the sea, perhaps a single square past the "land usage" as per sea cities. Makes having a defensive navy feasible, and also stops incursions by Factions into your seas. Sort of like how governments today claim a couple of k's offshore as their territorial waters.

I couldn't agree more. It almost gives the other factions a right to blockade your shores-- they aren't really yours, after all. |

Sounds great to me a sort of 5 mile limit. |

Umm, this was already argued over extensively by the Beta Testers. BR said NO!I agree, it does need including, though personally I would limit it to cities that have a naval yard, AND make the space extend a bit further than one square. Shining1 |

Did BR say why not? I'd be interested to know. |
