Hi, I just installed v4.0 and now when I start a new game it immediately tells me I've reached the mandatory retirement year and ends the game. Has this been reported before? Any fix? Thanx, Bill |

It sounds like a problem we experienced when v4 came out relating to the alpha.txt. I'd uninstall the entire game, delete the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, install v1 off the CD and then apply v4. jkm firaxis games |

Hi Jeffrey, Thanks for responding, but I was able to resolve the problem without such drastic steps. When I first installed v4.0, I got a message saying I couldn't overwrite sound.dll. For some reason, it was marked as a system or hidden file or some such. I ran WinZip and extracted it manually taking the option to overwrite, and thought I had installed the entire patch. But apparently, the entire patch wasn't installed. I manually deleted sound.dll, then re-ran the v4.0 patch. The patch installed without a hitch and the mandatory retirement year problem went away.
