I installed SMAC and all the sound worked fine. Next, I installed the 4.0 patch and the Firaxis intro and the movie still have sound, but there are no sounds during the game. I have a Dell P3 450 with the Yamaha XG 64V Wavetable sound card. Thanks for any help you can give me.

This doesn't help you, but I am also experiencing the same problem. On a clean install I have sound, but with patch 4, no sound. I even tried a clean install and then just applied patch 3 to see if it would have the sound, but even with that there was no sound. I also have a Dell, but I have a Dimension XPS T500 with the Yamaha XG 64V.

The game is misdetecting your soundcard as EAX compatible. Set the EAX and DS3D entries in the alpha centauri.ini file to 0.

Very interesting reply. I, too, lost sound with the 3.0 upgrade. I E-Mailed the support address but got a reply that said I needed to get the latest drivers from the sound card mfgr. This, of course, was a nonsense answer. I'm glad that someone actually can let us know what's going on. Thanks!
