I really want to do scenarios, but I have the following problems:

When I set it to 'paint only mode' the buttons no longer work. Ok, fine. So I hit scroll lock to turn it off, and I try it, and it usually doesn't register the first few times (just moves the map around, but doesn't paint).

Second, it GPF's on me. It crashes, then explorer goes with it, then I have to reboot my machine.

This has occurred both on my P166 and my now Cyrix P200, neither overclocked. I have 1 gig + free space, virtual memory is managed by windows.

I have no problems playing the game (aside from a wierd clicky noise that started in v4.)

I am having trouble with the Alpha Centauri 4.0 update as well...

Using the "Scenario Editor" function has become a real pain in the
ASS!!!

I will go through the normal steps for creating a scenario:
1) Activate Scenario Editor
2) Choose terrain enhancement (boreholes, forests, resources, etc.)
3) ctrl+right click to place (left click to remove)
...and then, nothing happens. On a good day (rarely), there will be
about a 30 sec delay, and then I'll get what I want., but usually
nothing happens.

I've used the Scenario Editor a billion and 1/2 times with the older
version, and this has never happened before...
I even deleted the entire program from my system, re-loaded the game in
the older format, and the Editor worked fine...but once I re-installed
the update, the problem came back...
It seems that there is a bug (a rather annoying one) in the system.

Heron- It's just damn slow. I guess I have a faster machine because it takes only a few seconds to respond to a Ctrl-click to raise elevation. That is still too slow to be usable. I have switched back to patch 3.0 where the response is instantaneous.

I have switched back to 3.0 as well...however, I did have some luck speeding up the scenario process a bit with v4...

I removed SMAC completely from my system, then reinstalled the original version off the CD...then I reinstalled the 4.0 update.

I managed to take a few seconds (at least 10)off the load time...Though it is still too slow for my tastes. However, your machine appears to be faster then mine...so it may work for you.

I think the problem may lie in updating from v3.0 to v4.0 (don't ask me why).

I'm just going to wait for the next update.
