Guys/Gals:
I have a AMD-K6-2-400/Win95B/64MB/lots of disk space machine. After several minutes of SMACing off (k, i'm kinda pissd), my computer hangs... this doesn't happen if I don't apply patch v3.0.
I recently upgraded from a K6-2-266 (underclocked to 250), and applied Micro$oft's AMD+350MHz patch. before my processor upgrade, I had no problems achieving transcendence... never had premature trascendence, either

It sounds like the AMD overheating problem. Try removing the case cover and increasing the airflow over the processor (i.e. fan). If it has any impact, you might want to look into an additional CPU or case fan. We've seen this solve the problem you describe numerous times.

Jeff,
If it's a processor overheat, why does it happen just 3 or so minutes into the game (what kind of CPU intensive code is run so early in the game)?
I will try to remove the cover and see if this helps. I am looking into getting a bigger heatsink, too...
