Recently I have been able to set up a network between my P2 400 128MB Ram Win 98 computer and our older Cyrix 6x86 166 Win 95 computer. I have been able to enjoy network games (ie IPX) on this network however just today, the game refuses to load on the Cyrix. Yesterday the network game was running fine (except for a registry error that occured, but this didn't halt the game), but today it doesn't load. I have gone through all the steps in the readme and on the EA support in finding why the game simply refuses to load. The resolution is at 800x600, high-color 16-bit. DirectX 6 has been reinstalled (even though it was already installed), I have tried renaming the sound.dll to sound.dl_, I have tried restarting the computer, scan for errors, reinstall the game, delete registry keys linking to alpha centauri but to no avail, the game doesn't want to load anymore on the Cyrix! I have wasted a couple of hours trying to fix this problem and I am beginning to get extremely frustrated! Can someone please help?

Also another problem that was already mentioned is that on my P2, communications in the diplomacy screen and multiplayer setup screen doesn't work, however it does work with the Cyrix (of course noone can see it though). This isn't a major problem for network games, but on the internet the same problem occurs. Can someone PLEASE help? I've got no ideas left and not likely to think up of any more with this angry state I'm in! I'd be happy to supply any other relevant details that are required to solve this problem. thanks.

What was the registry error that occurred. Do you know? That could be what is now causing your problem. It might not have stopped your other game that was in progress but could now be the culprit keeping you from getting back in .

Not really sure :/. But if the registry error is the problem, how can I go about fixing it?

Not really sure but if I can find out I will post back in here for you. Also I dont really know if this is your problem,so it could still be something else entirely. And as far as if it is a registry problem you would then have to go into the registry and edit. And if you have never done this before it is better left up to someone who has experience with it as you can really F...up your comp.

Don't worry, found out the problem. The monitor DOES run on 800x600 resolution, but I suppose when the registry problem occurred, it changed the monitor model in the Control Panel -> System Settings. From what it was (Plug and Play Monitor) to (Standard VGA 640x480). So that's solved that :/.

Another problem I found however is sometimes during a multiplayer game (I think they interrupt the loop if it occurs in single player), one of the automated formers kept on going around in circles indefinitely. The only way I have been able to solve this problem is hold down CtrL+Shift+A for awhile that slows down the unit (for some reason) while clicking furiously on the TURN COMPLETE button. Why aren't there any fixes to these major problems?

Zak...glad you found out your other problem...the bug with the formers is well known. Happens in sp all the time if you automate your formers. I dont play MP so I couldnt tell you about it in that way. But in SP just dont automate your formers. Micromanage everything they do and you will have no problems. And I am guessing that this would be the same cure for MP also. These probs with the formers may be fixed in patch 4 but dont hold your breath.

Yeah - hope this new patch you're talking about is everything everyone's hoping it to be :/.
