Keep getting kicked out of the game - Help!

My problem is that I play Alpha Centauri for many turns (my latest game is up to year 2347), and then it comes to a point where it just kicks me back to windows and display a message saying that the program has performed an illegal function and will be shut down. When this happens and I go back into the game via a save and start to play again, I get to the same point in the game and it kicks me out again. So, in effect I can play a game to a random point but when I get to that point and get kicked out, I will keep getting kicked out at that point in any saved games. My system is a 400MHz, 96 meg of 100MHz ram, 8.4 gig hard drive with approx 600 MB available space left. I have a 4MB video card and a 12MB 3d accelerator card. I am using DirectX 6.1 and version 3.0 of SMAC. Please let me know what I can do to fix this problem as it is very frustrating not being able to complete a game. Also, let me know if you need any additional information regarding my system or setup. Just for additional info, I was having this problem so I unistalled the game, ran scandisk and defragged the drive then re-installed the game, but I am still having the problem. |
