How do I take the weapon platform off of the upgraded infantry icon? I mean the thing that looks like a big pistol on tank tracks that stands in front of the soldier whenever the scout unit is upgraded to have a better weapon. I want all of my infantry icons to stand alone, without the weapon. And is there a multiple-man infantry icon? There's a picture of one in the screen shot on the back of the SMAC box: it's an infantry icon that has three little soldiers standing in a triangle formation, but I haven't see it in the actual game.

You can change any of the graphics you want, by using a paint program, but you have to be careful not to translate and retranslate the files to different formats, and also not to introduce new colors into the pallettes, or you'll get ugly bizarre results.
More work than it's worth, IMHO, but if you want to put the effort into it, you can make your units look like Marvin the Martian and Foghorn Leghorn. (I'm serious, not sarcastic BTW - you are only limited by keeping the same pallette, the tile size, your imagination and spare time.)

BTW, I saw you're interested in cats. I've got four, all former strays that know a sucker when they see one.
I use Photoshop 5.0, but Corel PhotoPaint and Fractal Design Painter all work as well.
Just use something that can directly load and save the native file formats. (PCX, I believe, but there are multiple flavors of all graphics CODECs, so that's why you can't translate and retranslate.)
