Every time I try to start up the multiplayer version for IPX/SPX I get this error: DPERR_UNKNOWN. I have DirectX 6.1a installed (I reinstalled it just to make sure) and Win98. Any ideas as to what's happening here?

Try uninstalling IndirectX 6.1a, and installing 5 - IndirectX is notorious for little backwards compatibility problems, that M$ gets around to fixing once they appear often enough - in another 2-3 months, you might see IndirectX 6.2c. Seriously, it is a pain in the ass issue for developers using the MS tools - you develop and test your product for the tool you have available, and then a new version comes out, which you HOPE is compatible etc. etc.If the problem is not present with older versions of IndirectX, then its either a driver compatibility issue, so you have to hunt for updated drivers for your hardware, or it may be an actual IndirectX problem. I'm running 6.1 (no a) on Win95.1 (Win98 to the M$ apologists out there) with no problems. |

As a poor fool with WIN98 and DX6.1a, I havent had any problems with ipx (except over kali which may not count.) The one time I did get a ipx error was when my network card was not installed properly. Check the device manager to make sure that you network card is installed properly and that it is working properly. |

I have IPX/SPX running fine on my local network... I can access all computers and no visible errors in the Device Manager. I'll try loading the Directx from the game CD-ROM asd see what happens. |
