In the Alpha Centauri ini. file the command 'Video Mode=1024' has myseriously stopped working so I can no longer play the game in hi resolution. It HAS previously worked with my system (AMD k5 333, 3D Blaster Banshee PCI, 32MB RAM) and after trying multiple re-installations and going carefully through your trouble shooting guide I can not get it to do so again. It only works in Video Mode 800, crashing back to the desktop if I change it to 1024. What can I do?

it looks like it's not the game but your be-loved windows system and probably the DirectX drivers, you might want to re-install them.

Thanks for the reply. However I tried reinstalling Windows95 and Smac and Directx6 but it still will not run in Video Mode=1024.
