I haven't worked on Win95 for a while, but do you have the kernel update installed? - it fixes a memory leak that is worse than what MS says. The link is: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wuadmintools/s_wunetworkingtools/w95kernel32/default.asp?site=95
The kernel update was incorporated into Win95 OSR 2 and OSR 2.5 (versions b and c) but did NOT get included in Service Pack1
Also try memturbo at www.memturbo.com
At 64 meg of ram, win95/98 does NOT fully load itelf into ram, and uses swapfile. That type of behavior - colorization, no icons or icon substitution, etc. is normally caused by excessive ram and swap file fragmentation. Norton utilies 3.0 and higher will optimize your swap file, and I prefer disabling automatic VM management and going to a permanent swap file size - set the minimum and max values the same, and you create a permanent swap file. 256 MB works best. Note that Windows defrag will NOT defragment the swap file.
Hope this helps.
