I Just goth the game a couple days ago and as soon as I got to drop pods I was so happy, all because; hey there's no stopping a guy when he can air lift his shard squads into a pactbrothers carelessly unattended base! But anyway; I wanted to create a unit that could carry others into orbit (or wherever they go), and then deploy them into the combat zone. Kinda like that other Alpha Centauri Game: Terra Nova; where you played a MMI tank that got dropped from this herculean interplanitary transport ship. Not only was I dissapointed in that regard (because it doesn't work) I found that any chassis that wasn't a foil or a cruiser wouldn't carry units, but would instead simply cause them to sentry on the square they are in when they move out. I created a hovertank with a troop transport thingie and fitted it out with drop pods- then I loaded it onto a cruiser to get it to the airbase I wanted to drop it from. When the cruiser moved out I saw my hovertank still sitting there ON THE WATER! The tank could still move from its square as if it were still sitting in a transport. (who needs Amphi- Pods?) The thingie was so sqrewy I had to laugh. Can anyone tell me I'm doing something wrong? Is there something I missed? Should I go into what happens when I try Air transport? (kinda the same thing only the other way around)
Oh and another thing - i was playing as Dierdre on citizin and of course was at the top of the game. I wanted to make a fast ascent to trancendence and read all the "book of planet" shorts. So I tried to keep everybody peacefull: Dealing tech for Pacts and asking people to call of their vendettas against my friends. Eventually I wound up having two brothers who were embroiled in vendetta- inside MY territory! Now thats a realistic thing that can happen to a person but when one side attacks a stack of units and my guy is the best defender then I get a sneak attack from my pact brother who was magnanimous just last turn. I tried to sort everything out and explain it all to the Ai's but they just kept blabbing on about how they had a contract to exterminate the whoevers and wouldn't stop.
So :
1) What are the rules for air/land/grav units with the troop transport weapon which I think would have made a better ability than a weapon.

2) Why don't the Ai units pick on the best defender who ISN'T a pact brother unit?

3) Why can't I bribe the Ai's with my Tons of Tech when they are contracted to kill a faction?

Nobody (especially Firaxis) knows all the combinations of unit types and capabilities that the game allows - there are some bugs, and some things the designers either didn't think of, or it was too hard to write special case code for an oddball unit.

Hovertanks as transports? A total waste IMHO. (I play exclusively as Transcend/Ironman, and am hosting over 2 dozen PBEM games, so I know a little about the game ) But there are some bizarre behaviors in the unit/ability combos, and the occasional bug.

As far as #2 goes, as a combat vet I can tell you if we are standing and talking and a mortar round lands between us, it ain't gonna sort out who's who - it's gonna waste both of us, and whoever else is standing around. If you get caught in a cross-fire, you get popped. Learn to be careful about who you pact with.

#3 - You have to get the right sequence. The AI is telling you they got into the vendetta because another faction asked them to, directly or by a pact. So if you can get the right pact to make peace first, the others will follow by next turn, but you still have to ask them - so they might not talk to you. Some factions are naturally more hostile to others, or you, due to their ideological differences. Deirdre the treehugger and Morgan the landraper are one combo example where it is hard to get them to cooperate. Miriam and Zakharov are another.
