I'm getting consistent crashes in SMAC 3.0 shortly after getting involved in any air war. Doesn't seem to happen on every air-to-ground attack, but does seem to happen on a damnable lot of them. As soon as an enemy of mine starts building Needlejets, my days are numbered. If I go back many turns and do different things,I can buy a little time, but the game will inevitably crash in the end. I have 3 save games where this behavior reproduces reliably 100% of the time just by hitting "Turn Complete" after loading the save. I have yet to actually complete a single game :-( Help!

Sounds like the AI kills a non-combat unit (Former or Supply crawler) and the game crashes bug, or related.

Try turning on Omni view (Alt+K or Cntl+K, don't remember which, but its one the Scenario Menu) and see what it is that the AI does that kills the system.

You aren't the only one stung by this bug, but I don't recall anyone getting any help with Firaxis on this problem other than send a save to Jeff and he would send you the game back past it...

The problem lies with the fact we've never been able to duplicate the problem here. I don't dismiss the idea it occurs, but until we can get a debug version of the code (or release for that matter) to experience it locally, we can only make guesses about what the cause is.

Alex: I've seen some say that forcing your game to 800x600 resolution can solve this, though again, I've not tested it myself. Try setting your desktop resolution to 800x600x8bit prior to loading any save. Oh, and my email address is [email protected]. Send in those saves.
