I have a problem when I try to save multiplayer games on my LAN. When I try to come back and load them, each PC starts up an independent game that does not interact with the other players. I am running version 3.0 If I go to the multiplayer menu it won't let me load a saved game. Is there some way to do this correctly?

Yeah, it's there but hard to find.
The host starts up as if he/she is going to begin a new game. Then on the host screen select "Load Game" from the "Type of Game" menu, 4th option down on the left. Load the game and have people attach and play!

Thanks from me too. I had assumde that it was not possible.
How do the joining players select the teams they were previously playing?

They pick them just like they would if they were starting a new game.
