I'm playing in a PBEM-game. When it finally became my turn, I loaded the savegame and entered my password. I just barely got to see my cities (time warp) before the research goal screen pops up, and I select something. After that, I get the tech immediately and I choose a new goal, and then I get that tech immediately as well, and it continues that way. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get out of there! Please help me someone!

That's the way it works in a PBEM game. You pick all of your techs before you get to see the rest. Eventually it will stop giving them to you.
If you're playing Gaia though, you don't get to choose your techs for some reason.
