OK, who else has followed all the advice and STILL can't get the program or patch to work?

I've downloaded the patch (correct US versions 3.0 and 3.1 (from EA.com)) and neither will install. It crashes out at terran.exe

It is not a virus! I have run 3 different AV programs (including the one recommended for the CIH virus) and my system is CLEAN.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, then applied the patch. NO GO.

It's not hanging onto any txt files.

The game itself crashes out giving the message, "invalid page foual in mod Terran.exe" at 0177:0064d241.

Video and sound drivers are not the norm for microsoft: SiS530, and PCI sound pro
BUT I did check w/the manuf. and confirmed it should work. All tests work perfectly w/dxdiag. Never had a problem w/video or sound w/other directx games.

I'm tired of downloading this patch again and again, reinstalling the game, checking for viruses that don't exist. I know there are others out there w/the same problem, so who has had success here?

THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!

Hmm. It may be the drivers. Sound does tend to be a bit of a problem area with this game.

Standard advice seems to be to edit the alpha centauri.ini file and set both EAX and DS3D to 0.

Other suggestions are to rename the sound.dll so that it can't be found (beware if renamed prior to applying a patch the patch installation crashes out !)

I also remember reading somewhere about seting something else in the ini file something-vox-something. Hmm can't exactly recall but looking at the older threads might come up with it.

Best of luck.

Aha! I'm NOT alone!

I'm having this same problem, and it's been occuring with three different sound cards, and NO sound card at all. (I had an SB AWE64, replaced that with a SB PCI64, then with an SB Live! Value, and when it STILL didn't work, I removed the sound card entirely.)

I've tried renaming sound.dll, turning off the EAX and DS3d (Liked it better like that, the echos were annoying.) and directdraw, switched 'forceoldvoxelalgorythm' or whatever it is in the INI as mentioned in the Readme, and still nothing. I can start a game and let it sit at the main menu without touching anything and it will blow up after a few minutes.

Well here is a small twist. I've had this game since it came out and for the first month of game play I never had a single problem, game never crashed. Now after a delet and reinstall after getting a lan I'm running into the same problem you guys are. I've had mixed results with renaming the sound file. Whats the developer's stance on this problem?
