Hello kind people,

I have the Monster Sound M80 with the most recent drivers v1.07.06. I am also running the most recent version of DirectX which I believe to be version 6.2.

The problem is that as I play Alpha Centauri v3.0, the game frequently crashes with a GPF in the module "sound.dll".

Is it possible that the most recent drivers for the M80 card (which are dated July 9, 1998!!!!!) are not fully and completely compatible with DirectX 6.2? Or is something else going on here?

Keep in mind that I run Baldur's Gate with no problems whatsoever. (Baldur's Gate, however, does not require DirectX 6...)

Thanks,

The game is misdetecting the cards A3D capabilities. Set EAX and DS3D to 0 in the alpha centuari.ini file.

Actually, I found that you can leave the EAX=1 line. I solved my problem by just setting DS3D=0. I have played the second half of a saved game and never had a problem. I have a sound blaster live value card. I don't have all the cool effects anymore, but for no crashes, I can live with that. BTW, will the next patch to the game fix this problem?

I also had the same problem and was hoping for a fix. Thanks.

My problem sounds much the same. Sound works fine until I make a research breakthrough and then it invariably crashes. I've got a soundcard you've probably never heard of (C-Media), but the driver is current.
