Hi,

I'm having a problem and was wondering if anyone else has it or knows a fix? After the game has gone on for a while, and there are lots of cities (yours and the enemy) the game starts to slow down incredibly between turns. I realize with more units for the computer to move it would take longer, but often it will be 3 to 5 minutes of sitting waiting for the computer. I set it to move units quickly but the effect was minimal. I have a Pentium II 400 MHZ machine, it shouldn't be THAT slow.

Does anybody else have this problem, or a fix?

Man...I'm SO with you. I've only got a 233 (40 ram, 4 meg video) but I KNOW it shouldn't be running this slowly. I can play dozens of games just fine...Is there some setting I can tweak to speed this up? I've already shut off the sound and multimedia...

This is heavily dependant on the size of map you've got. Huge maps are going to be slow. Also, make sure you've got v3.0, which improves map-draw performance signifigantly over previous versions.

I too am getting the slow down. I do admit that I am on a Gigantic map (128*256), however, the slowdown that I am having is not waiting for the computer to move, it my lack of control over my mouse. It takes 5 minutes to move it from point A to point B and other 5 to get the click to register. I have played on several regular Huge maps and never had this problem. I can handle waiting for the computer to move, but with out a mouse to navagate and manage my cities, the game is as good as over.

BTW: I have a PII-333 (celeron) with 64MB PC100 SDRAM.

Also, I do have the 3.0 patch installed.

Something strange happened. The game started normally and I continued until the very end without the slow down. There were 3 things I did.
1) Changed my desktop background to a smaller sized bmp file (2.5MB to 500KB).
2) Defraged my swap drive and game drive
3) Used the Win98 update and upgraded the DX fix (not the 6.1 upgrade, it was already installed).

These were the only 3 things I did between games (aside from playing a few missions of X-Wing Alliance). My guess is that #3 was probably the one that solved the problem, but you can never be sure. If you use Win95, try DX 6.0 instead of 6.1.
