Well, I nearly gave up on SMAC, having problems with terran.exe crashing. The game never crashed during play, only when I tried to restart it. Strangly, deleting all my saved games fixed the problem. Then after an unrelated crash I cleaned up my games partition, and gave SMAC another try. Behold, I played an entire game to the end (with reloads) without a single problem. I think the problem was that the disk structure on my games partition was messed up (scandisk didn't catch it). And no, there was no problem with the swap file, it resides on a 3rd partition. May not help a lot of people, but this is one that firaxis cannot be blamed for. |
