posted 04-28-99 01:08 AM ET While on p.133 of the manual it clearly states that "...destroying another faction's Probe Teams does not violate a treaty or pact," whenever I tried to do so the game would ask me if I want to break a treaty.
Today I actually decided to try it, and after I killed off 2 UoP probe teams, I found the Provost got mad at me.
What gives?

I tested probe teams out some more, and found that:
1. You can attack computer probe teams, even in enemy territory, with your own probe teams without causing any incident.
2. You cannot attack probe teams from other factions with treaties with you without they get mad at you.
3. Worms can't expel probe teams.

Can't comment on specifics, but I can tell you that how probe teams worked was something that got a lot of attention during the beta testing and many changes were made back and forth. Quite a few options were tried and changes made based on the beta testers' comments. I'm not surprised if the as-implemented actually matched the manual perfectly since the manual was "complete" sooner than the software. Not intended as an excuse, just an explanation.

I suspect it is some kind of typo in the manual. You can only capture and interrogate probe teams without causing an incident.

More stangeness.
When I bribe an enemy unit with a probe team the moral of that unit becomes green when it was at a higher level before.
I have both the Command Nexus and the Cyborg Factory so my units should be tough as nails.

Don't the Command Nexus and the Cyborg Factory have more to do with increasing the moral of any newly built units and not units that were built prior to having the C.N. and C.F.? Were the units you bribed possibly having their moral bumped up by the other faction having a Police State and/or using Power?
