According to page 144 in the SMAC manual:
1/ Armor with defense strength 1 and 2 defense ONLY against projectile weapons, but are USELESS against energy weapons. Is that correct?
2/ Armor with defense strength 4, 5 and 8 defense ONLY against Energy weapons, but are USELESS against projectile weapons.
3/ Armor with defense strength 3, 6, 10 and 12 defense against both weapon-types.
Have i understood above correctly? I am asking because the in-game help-files seems to suggest that a better defense strength is ALWAYS better REGARDLESS of weapon-types.

The things you just learned about do not affect the game as of now. At least nobody but Firaxis knows about them. I think they are just for show.
