posted 04-22-99 08:27 AM ET I have done a complete install and would like to run the game without the CD in the drive. Mainly becasue I listen to music while playing on the PC and its a pain in the bum to have to keep reaching down and changing the CDs. It was possible in Civ2 to do this, is it possible in AC. If not whats the point of doing a complete install as the CD drive is only slightly slower than the hard discs.

you can start and run the game without the CD in if you did a complete install. I also listen to CD music while playing. you won't be able to hear the game voiceovers, but that is to be expected.

couslee & philthom100,
Here's how you can have the best of both worlds. Buy a cheap little portable cd player. Make sure it has a 1/8" line out (or ext spkr) jack. Patch this into the line in jack on your sound card. Viola! Now you can listen to both!

Hey.... Do you want to play the game without the music? Turn it off then. I think that a friend of you had bought the game, and he installed it on your comp, so you could play without buying it.... You know.... that... is.... illegal...

If you want to play the UK version without the CD in the drive then you need to install patch version 3 (UK version obviously).
