My problem is similar to the guy's down there, I cant get past the year 2456. I tried advancing the year to 2458 with the Scenario Editor, but no luck..any ideas?

I've the same problem with the german version of SMAC.
The first time the game crashed in 2405.
My second try ended in 2399.
What can I do ???

Well, I think I found out what my problem was. When I asked for details from Norton Crashguard, it said the problem was from a SOUND.DLL file. So I took that as a cue, and turned off ALL the sound in the game. Once that was done I managed to get past that year. I then turned my sound back on and everything worked fine..almost. You see..later on, I forget what year, it crashed again because of the sound, so I just had to turn it off again. I dont know what sound is causing the problem..but thats the only (temporary) solution I could find. Let me know if it works for you, then we can tell Firaxis there is something wrong with either our sound cards..or the sounds in the game. I have Diamond Monster II (A3D) sound card.

It isn't the sound card (Soundblaster16)
Some friends have the same problem. The game always crashes around the year 2400.

If it's soundcard specific to an A3D card, try disabling EAX and DS3D support in the alpha centauri.ini file. You can do this by setting the entries to 0. This may permit sound without the fatal.

No joy, game still crashes (for me at 2300) no matter what I do. Will there be a patch soon?

Well, I did the A3D solution, and it worked, thank you J.M. No more crashes for me, so far.
