  I can't log on alphaHQ!!! HELP!!!

Author Topic:   I can't log on alphaHQ!!! HELP!!!

Ok I have been dying to play SMAC multiplayer ever sicne I started playing it but I didn't know anyone who had it. SO I look here and there is a service for it. So now it tells me when I try to log on after making an account some java script error.
I look at the support and it tells me I need IE 1.02 or COmmunicator 4.06. Sure enough I look at my version and I am on communicator 4.05..DOH!!
I didn't know for sure where to get the update was for 4.06 so I just decide to stumble over to the microsoft web site...
I get there and download the giant 16 meg file that had all this crap I didn't need but decided to do that one just to make sure I had all the junk I needed to get the right version.
So I wait for 2 hours for this to finish playing good ol single player against the AI. When the download finishes I wait for it to do all its setup junk and restart my comp.
When I get back to alphaHQ I look at my version just to make sure...IE 5...And clear my temp inet files just to make sure. Attempt to log on again and this time it leaves the screen white with the frames on the side and says at the bottom corner "page error." I guessed this was ANOTHER java error. So I go back to microsoft and download the 6 MB java VM since that WAS the actual java I THOUGHT I needed. (that also wut the support page said the reason they want newer browsers cuz java...)
Anyway I wait another hour with the good ol AI and once again once its installed I go back try to log on and get the same damn error.
Can anyone help me I'm dying to play online!!

Ok now I got communicator 4.51 and it STILL just gives me a blank screen when I try to log on the damn thing.
WHAT THE **** IS THIS **** I HAVE BEEN MESSING WITH THIS FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS AND IT STILL AIN'T WORKING!!!

Oops. You could have tried a clean install of Communicator 4.51. First UNINSTALL any old version of Communicator. Run Scandisk, install new version of Communicator. I got the same Java scrpit errors using IE 4.01. I just upgraded to 5.0 and most of it works fine.
