I installed the game, ran it and it worked fine all the way to conclusion.
Now I found this enhancement 3.0 patch and patched the game correctly. Upon running the game I get terran.exe problems everywhere. Upon Startup, after chosing a faction, whenever my scientists research something. Should I just assume v.3.0 is the problem even though it is suppose to fix and not harm? I re-installed the game without the patch and I get no more crashes. I installed the patch a second time and same scenario

CPU STATS
Pent 2, 300 mhz.
Ram 64
System Resources 80%
Win 98
32 Speed CD-Rom

Thankyou for any help, in the meantime I am getting rid of the patch.

If the crashes are terran.exe causing a fault in the sound.dll, then it is most likely because the game is misdetecting your soundcard as EAX compatible. Try setting the EAX and DS3D entries in the alpha centauri.ini file to 0.

I have been having the game crash on startup. I have disabled the EAX and ds3d settings in the ini file but the game still crashes on startup. I'm running a diamond monster sound mx300 and the only solution seems to be to rename the sound.dll file. Please help me get sound back!

What version of the game do you have? v3.0 includes much more stable A3D support, so perhaps that will help. Also, make sure that you are setting the existing ini entries to 0, and not adding new lines at the bottom of the file.
