I just purchased Alpha Centauri and am havig two preformance problems. I have a Creative Labs 3Dfx Voodoo2 acellerator and versoin 3.0 of Alpha Centauri. Whenever there are many units on the screen (ie more than one) the unit movement animation runs very slowly and choppily. My computer more than meets the minimum system requirements-pentium running 200mhz, 80 mb's of ram, 700+ mbs extra hard drive space, 4X cd-rom drive. This problem did not occur when I was playing the demo. It occurs on all installation levels I have tried.
My second problem involves the sound. After I installed the 3.0 patch the sound plays too slowly and it plays double- almost like there is an echo. Please inform me if there is a way to fix either of these problems. Thank you.

Hi LocustOfChiron,
I can answer your first problem - SMAC only uses the primary card. The slow movement of the unit's happens to me when the game get going, which is well after the 100 year limit imposed on the demo, I have basically the same spec'ed machine as you!
I've seen SMAC running on a PII333 and it motors along, so I'd sort of come to the conclusion that P166 is sort of the min. machine for normal to slow performance.
This aside, at work, I'm playing on a P90, it's slow but still playable and I get quite alot done in a hour :-)
I'd try changing the preferences to quicken the game if you're not happy, or scan a previous post when had a reference to memturbo.exe. This will de-frag your memory when SMAC's running and this might aid speed of the units.
