Every time I complete a project the movie will play and than I'll gwt a blue screen that says Fatal exception at 0028:C11708E7 in VXD DSOUND(03) +000005BB, The program than terminates. I have a Pentium 200MMX w/ a SB 32AWE and 32 MB ram w/ 300MB of harddrive space free. It's 1:30 in the morning and I'm getting frustrated. Help Firaxis. P.S DXDiag.exe certifies all my sound and video files w. 6.0.

Actually this is the same that happens to me, P 200 MMX, SB32 Pnp, 32 MB RAM and the standard installation.Anyone knows an answer by now? I really would like to play the game, but right now I am thinking more about getting a refund from the store, especially since all you get to hear is "set DSD3d to 0 in ac.ini" and still no working game... i have a p200.. sb32 pnp sc and 32 megs ram.. and mine does it too.. rarely, and i mean RARELY will in not lock up completely and it will let me continue with no sound... most of the time i dont even get the blue screen, it will just freeze.. it didn't bother me much, because i've seen all the sp movies anyhow.. so i just turned of the movies and it runs great, well i should say good, cause this is only a regular old pentium im talkin about. |

David: Try running the DirectSound tests in DXDiag.exe. Someone else that that exact problem, and it turned out they didn't actually have an AWE32. It was some other card that used that driver, and used it incorrectly. Perhaps popping the case is worth it, just to be sure.Grimrod: Does renaming the sound.dll to sound.dl_ solve the problem? If so, and you've got an SB32PnP, the ini tweaks usually solve the problem. Make sure you're not adding those lines, since v3.0 puts them at the top of the file. You should change the entries already present. jkm firaxis games |

Jeff, It is a SB32 AWE PnP when I run Diagnose for DirectX it tells me SB16.VXD is not certified, so I think this is where the problem lies. |

I ran the Test and their was a failure at step 10 (secondary buffer)HRESULT =0x80070057 so the driver for SB32AWE which is SB16.vxd looks like it dosen't agree with DX 6.0 or 6.1 |

That's totally bizarre, since the SB16 driver has been certified for absolute ages. I've got an ancient SB16 in my home system and the thing works great. You need to figure out how to get that card working with directsound, since that's what the game uses. I'd see what www.soundblaster.com has to say about it.jkm firaxis games |

When I run DXDiag.exe from directX directory on my hardrive everything is fine. But when I run DXDiag.exe from the directx directory on the CD I get the message that SB16.vxd is uncertified. |

Jeffrey: I did set the values to "0" at the beginning of the ini-file. I got the same problem that David got, though. But my SB16.vxd is even not certified when I use the diagnose from my hard drive. All other drivers are ok, but this one isn't. Creative Labs only has the drivers that I already used, no update since Nov. 1998.And the card has its failure at step 10 of the diagnose program as well as David's has. And renaming the sound.dll solves the problem, but it is no fun without the sound. Now I feel depressed...... Grimrod |

Hey Jeff this is the AWE 32 acting up again (the card and or the drivers)... did you come up with a fix for it and the videos? My computer still randomly blue-screens *before* videos would/should play. You say "Someone else that that exact problem, and it turned out they didn't actually have an AWE32." Were you refering to my previous posts? I still have that problem, and I do have an AWE 32. -Chris |

Briefly, I recently bought SMAC and played through it a bit on Citizen. I then visited here and grabbed the UK Version 3 patch. Imagine my surprise when the movies, which had played without incident before the patch, now caused the blue screen of death without actually getting going. Report similar to the first poster's: A fatal exception 00 has occurred at 0028:C32935C7 in VXD DSOUND(03) +000005BB. Current app will be terminated.... yada yada yada. I know for a fact that I have a SoundBlaster 32, which is effectively an AWE32 without the memory as I understand it. What I do NOT understand is why things were fine pre-patch and not fine post patch. I do still have a few things to try, but I felt inclined to comment now because this is the first time a patch has actually caused more problems than it solved for me. I appreciate there are workarounds, but we've paid our money so I don't see why we should need them... |

I have the same problem, but instead of a blue screen I get a ddhelp.exe error. I have a pII 350 with a diamond v550 and a SB Live value, all with the latest drivers and I'm running DX 6.1, any ideas. Thanks, Caleb |

This "sounds" like a pretty common failure. My system does the same thing the rest of yours do. I have found that turning OFF the movies allows me to continue the game, but becomed deprived of the entertainment. |

Further to my previous post, I am now playing with 0s set. It seems that my SB32 drivers are not certified, but I assume they weren't before I patched to UK V3 as well and the movies didn't cause hangs then. Now, playing main sound off, I can watch one project movie no problem. It's the second that causes the hang. What's worse is that the hang utterly kills the sound on my system, forcing me to reboot. I'm obviously not the only one having problems, and something has clearly altered from the original version to version 3 which has affected the sound handling in a baaaaad way. So, patch 4.0 if you please, sharpish! |

Why don't you just turn the Wonder movies off? |
