posted 04-03-99 01:26 AM ET I get an echo effect on all voice and sound effects in the game. I've seen this problem mentioned in some previous posts. The problem occurs in the original version and after the v3.0 patched version. I've tried setting ds3d and eax = 0 in the .ini file to no effect. In fact I tried any combination of 1 and 0 for the two parameters to no effect. I've tried reinstalling DX6 to no avail. However I did notice when I tried running the dxdiag tool that my sound card driver was uncertified by MS. I have a cheap sound blaster compatible sound card which I really should upgrade but I'm hoping there's an easier solution. Any help would be appreciated because it makes the sounds in the game unbearable.
Thank you.

Just as an additional note I'm running SMAC on a P166 with 32MB.

Hmm...Try setting the hardware acceleration that Windows does down..Lower it notch by notch until you get it sounding good...See if that works..

No that didn't seem to help.

My soundcard *finally* did the studdering problem many people talk about..It happened when I overclocked my Cyrix, and somehow my sound cut out..I turned it off and then back on in the preferences and then the studdering began..Quit the game, and came back, and it was all fine again...Wierd...I know this doesn't answer your question.. But hey..Maybe it'll help get to the problem.. =] Maybe it's the way SMAC is (re)loading the sound(driver) which is screwing it up..

I tried lowering and even turning off Hard drive read ahead cache and it didn't help. I installed all the sounds and voices on my HD when I first installed it. I guess there wouldn't be an off chance it wouldn't echo if I played it off the CD?
ARGH! This is really bugging me. Is this something that can be fixed in a future patch or is it not a SMAC software problem?
