I have an ESS1869 sound card, the latest drivers, directx 6.1, and the 3.0 patch for SMAC. When I play the voice overs and some sound effects will repeat the last part of the sound till it finds a new sound to repeate. any ideas how to fix this?

What's your processor and amount of RAM? Also, run the DXDiag.exe tests for directsound and see what happens.jkm firaxis games |

I have a similar problem on one of the computers here - there's an "echo" effect with sound, music, and voices. The sound card is an old SB-16 SCSI-II. 64 megs RAM, K6-200 CPU, not overclocked. (I _haven't_ tried updating the drivers, or reinstalling Direct X. (It's not my computer, and I thought I'd ask here before doing that stuff, to see if there's something else to try first.) |

It may not of helped, but did it say your SC was DX compliant? I think that's what he was getting at.. |

I have a similar problem running SMAC on an IBM Thinkpad 300Mhz under NT 4.0 (SP 4). The sound is fine when the opening movie sequence plays. However in the game I get an echo on all speech but no problem with sound effects. DirectX compliance checks out.Any help much appreciated!! |

I have the "echo" sound as well, I tested my sound card and it said It cant do Hardware buffering, only software. I dont know if thats an issue with the sound problem or not. If so, anyway I could fix it? |

I was having the same problem a couple days ago. I fixed it by reinstalling DirectX 6.0 (not 6.1, I had that previously) and using the new sound drivers that came with 6.0. |
